Client Thank-You Gifts: Choosing the Right Occasion
A client thank-you gift works best when it is tied to a real moment: a project wrapped up, a referral that turned into work, a client who has stayed with you for years. The same hamper can feel thoughtful or generic depending on when it arrives and what the card says. This guide covers the occasions that suit a client thank-you gift, how to match the gift to the occasion and the relationship, what to write on the card, and how to send one gift or a whole list of them.
Occasions that suit a client thank-you gift
Most businesses only think about client gifts at Christmas. Christmas matters, but a thank-you sent at another time of year is often the one a client remembers, because it arrives on its own.
The end of a project or job. When a fit-out, a campaign, a build or a long piece of advice is finished, a gift marks the moment and thanks the client for their time and patience along the way.
A referral. When a client or partner sends someone your way and it becomes real work, a thank-you shows you noticed. Send it once the referral turns into a client, not before.
A new client signing on. A small welcome gift at the start of a relationship sets the tone and gives the client something with your name on it from day one.
A renewal or anniversary. A contract renewed, a client's fifth year with you, or the anniversary of their first job are easy dates to keep in a calendar and simple reasons to say thanks.
A client milestone. A business opening, moving premises, a growth year or a property settlement are moments the client is already celebrating, and a gift from you joins in.
After a hard stretch. If a job ran long or something went wrong and the client stuck with you, a thank-you once it is resolved acknowledges that without making a fuss of it.
The end of the year. If you do gift at Christmas, start early: our guide to planning corporate Christmas gifts walks through the timeline, and our corporate Christmas order checklist covers what to have ready when you order.
Matching the gift to the occasion
The occasion and how well you know the client usually decide the gift more than the budget does. Read each product's listed contents before you choose. Some starting points from our thank you hampers:
A small thanks for a referral or a quick job. Nibbles (Zonzo Estate Pinot Noir, roasted macadamias and chocolate meringue bites) is a small token of appreciation that is easy to send often.
A client or referral partner you know well. A Thank You Hamper (a wave chopping board, a black knife set, black mini dip bowls and stemless wine glasses) is made for clients, colleagues and referral partners and has no alcohol in its listed contents. Sav Time (Zonzo Estate Cab Sav, stemless wine glasses, roasted macadamias and chocolate honeycomb) is a simple thank-you to share.
A celebration, such as a launch or a big project finished. Cin Cin (Zonzo Estate Prosecco Di Aria, The Jade Crystal Champagne Glass Set of 2, a wooden round handle board and a gold knife set) is made for raising a glass.
A client you don't know well, or who would rather not receive alcohol. Sense of Self (The Village by Matt & Lentil, a carafe set, Jasmine & Rose loose leaf tea and Oud Boheme incense sticks) has no alcohol in its listed contents.
A client moving into a new home or office. Move In (gold salad servers, a camphor laurel chopping board, a Lune Living carafe set, a white candle and a vanilla bean tea towel) is made for a new space, and the board and candle can carry your logo.
A long-standing or major client. The Modern Host (Zonzo Estate Pinot Noir, a terrazzo cheese board, a black knife set and a citrus diffuser) and Wine n Dine (Zonzo Estate Pinot Noir, a marble cheese board, a black knife set, automatic salt and pepper grinders and a caramel chocolate block) are more generous options.
Every product page shows its current price. If you thank clients often, keeping one gift per occasion makes the decision quick each time, and our corporate gift budget guide shows what each price point buys. If your business has a policy on client gifts, check it before you choose a gift amount.
What to write on the card
The card is what turns a hamper into a thank-you from you. A few lines are enough:
- Name the occasion: the project, the referral or the anniversary.
- Say what it meant to you or your team, in plain words.
- Sign it from a person, not only the business name.
- Leave out sales offers. A thank-you that asks for more work reads like an advert.
For example: "Thanks for trusting us with the new office fit-out. It was a pleasure working with you and the team this year. From Sam and everyone at [your business]."
Branding a client thank-you gift
A thank-you is about the client, so a light touch of branding usually works better than a logo on every item. Your options include:
- Branded gift boxes finished with a gloss label, with no minimum order, so you can brand a single client's gift. Many of our hampers come branded or unbranded, in black or white.
- Branded ribbon, with a minimum order of one roll at $199 and a $121 (incl GST) setup fee invoiced at the artwork finalisation stage.
- Branded greeting cards in packs of 200, which suit a business that sends a card with every gift.
For branding, send us your logo in a vector file format. See all of our branding options, or our guide to branded gift boxes vs merchandise if you are deciding between a hamper and a branded item.
Sending one gift or a whole list
For one client, order online and send the gift straight to them: online orders go to one delivery address each. To thank many clients at once, email us your chosen hampers and we will send you a spreadsheet to complete with each recipient's delivery details. Our how to order page explains both options, and our guide to sending gifts to multiple recipients covers bulk orders in more detail. We deliver across Australia. If a gift needs to arrive by a particular date, email our team before ordering so we can arrange it.
Some industries have their own gifting moments. See our guides to vendor thank-you gifts for real estate agents, client gifts for mortgage brokers and client gifts for accountants and bookkeepers. To thank your own team as well, browse our staff gift hampers or the wider corporate gifting range.
